Layer 2 VPN

Definition

Bulgartel provides packet switching services based on Ethernet technology according to the Metro Ethernet Forum recommendations.

Service is appropriate for data transmission among offices, Internet access or for connection to database servers.

Service components

UNI (User-to-Network Interface):

  • Other product names: МAN port;
  • Physical interface, demarcation point of service provider’s network;
  • Types UNI: 10,100 Mbps copper port, 1 Gbps optical or copper port or 10 Gbps optical port;

EVC (Ethernet Virtual Connection):

  • Other product names: VLAN;
  • Ethernet Virtual Connection among two or more UNI.

Data transmission technology can be SDH, DWDM, Ethernet, Dark Fiber etc.

E-Line

UNI ports are dedicated to only one E-Line. Two UNI (User-to-Network Interface) ports are connected by a point-to-point Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC). A guaranteed bitrate and protocol transparency are ensure

  • Level of Layer 2 protocol transparency – full transparency;
  • Ethernet or SDH based transmission;
  • Maximal MTU size.
 

EVPL

UNI ports accommodate many VLANs (port multiplexing). Two UNI (User-to-Network Interface) ports are connected by a point-to-point Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC). Protocol transparency is not ensured.
Typical applications:

 

  • Ethernet Virtual Connection for data transmission between two offices worldwide;
  • Connection to database servers;
  • Internet access.

  • Protection: Standard or Protected;
  • End point 1 – address of office 1;
  • End point 2 – address of office 2 or collocated equipment;
  • Level of Layer 2 protocol transparency – full transparency;
  • Ethernet based transmission;

EP-LAN

Service is designed for customers with many offices worldwide. High-speed Ethernet data circuits connects offices worldwide so that they looks like зa part of one LAN.

EP-LAN is based on multipoint-to-multipoint topology ensuring VLAN tagging and Layer 2 protocol transparency. The client can set up VLANs himself. 

Typical application:
Layer 2 VPN: connectivity among many offices within one common LAN.
Service parameters:
  • Capacity;
  • Protection: Standard or Protected;
  • End point 1,2,…n  – address of offices or collocated equipment;
  • Level of Layer 2 protocol transparency – full transparency;
  • Ethernet based transmission.
  • Maximal MTU size.

EVP-LAN

EVP-LAN allows an appointed port of customer’s LAN to be used for additional applications like Internet access or VoIP connection.

EP-Tree

  EP-Tree is based on point-to-multipoint topology. Every point can see the Central point (office) but the points are not connected among themselves. Central points can be more than one. Bulgartel’s network looks like an Ethernet switch with layer 2 port security.
Typical applications:
  • L2 VPN: connection from a Central Office to many Branches as the branches are not connected among  them;
  • One and the same capacity is used for providing services to many points for example for Internet access.

  • End point 1,2,…n  – address of offices or collocated equipment; Central point;
  • Level of Layer 2 protocol transparency – full transparency;
  • Ethernet based transmission;

Implementation and Support

Bulgartel is fully responsible for service provisioning upon Agreement/Service Order Form placement. Maximal lead time is 30 days. Express delivery is available upon a client’s request and is subject of Bulgartel’s confirmation.
